Human Lantern is a 1993 Hong Kong romance crime action paranormal film written by Wong Jing (王晶) and directed by Andrew Lau Wai-keung (劉偉強). Main casts are Tony Leung Ka-fai (梁家辉) as Tong Fai and Chingmy Yau Suk-ching (邱淑貞) as Siu Fu-yung.

Tong Fai is the leader of a gang of petty criminals and an informant to police officer Kwong (黃光亮 Tommy Wong Kwong-leung). Tong Fai is also cursed with bad luck and misfortune in everything he does.

Tong Fai's gang come up against the crime lord and black sorcerer So Hung (張耀揚 Roy Cheung Yiu-yeung). Tong Fai is led to the fortune teller Granny Four (夏萍 Teresa Ha Peng) who divines that thirty years ago in his past life, Tong Fai was a attorney and associate of So Hung.

Tong Fai fell for Siu Fu-yung, the understudy of the opera singer Sister Wai (樂韻 Wai Lok). However, So Hung also desired Siu Fu-yung. After discovering the two lovebirds, So Hung ordered for the killing of both of them.

So Hung made a lantern out of Siu Fu-yung's skin into a lantern and imprisoned her soul in there. Tong Fai was buried in a grave that would give him ten incarnations of misfortune. The ghost of Siu Fu-yung now appears to the present Tong Fai to help him remember his past life and find a way to recover their mutual remains.
